most successful comic club and ran from 1939-1965. The club offered a wide
variety of pins, club kits, and related memorabilia over the years. The club
ceased in 1965 due to a lack of interest and the growing popularity of the
Marvel Comics Superheroes. While known as the Supermen of America club the
question now is was the word America meaning the United States of America or
North America?
Recently, an example of the 1939 club kit was discovered
with one intriguing difference which has never been documented. The newly
discovered club kit was issued to a child located in Alberni, B.C. Canada. In
the early 1940s the Ogilvie Flour Mills Company Limited in Montreal sponsored
the Superman radio program in Canada. One premium which was offered was an
enameled brass badge of Superman and another was a rare patch for the Supermen
of Canada club.
Do you have a Supermen of America envelope or club
certificate with a Canadian or international address? Was the Supermen of Canada
club exclusive to the Manitoba Canada area? Do you know of any other 1930s/1940s
rare Superman premiums which were exclusively distributed in Canada? Please let us
know.
